A world without Social Media ???

Hey guys!!! Welcome back to my blog! Hope your week has been great!

Today I thought I would reflect a little bit on what the world would look like without Social Media, or at least what my world would be like without it...

Growing up, I knew about Social Media but I was never allowed to have it. My parents were concerned about my brother and I putting too much information out, etc. so they were strict about us staying off of it. I remember going over to my friend's house and loving getting to look at other people's pages and profiles on their accounts. It wasn't until my Senior year of high school that my parents let me get a Facebook and slowly but surely I started joining other platforms, realizing I was older and a bit more in control of what I was doing with my phone, etc. Writing this now, I honestly can't believe I waited that long, because apps like Instagram, VSCO, and Snapchat are such huge parts of my life now. I can't imagine not being on them.

I think I could probably live without social media, from a social and free time perspective, but I would never choose to because it is such a huge part of our world now. If I were to remove myself from all social media, the world would move on without me. I would fall behind on things that may be important for my future profession and I would lose track of people and connections that could be beneficial to me down the road. Logistically speaking, I need social media: it is the way I communicate with all types of people and how I keep in touch with, draw closer to, and plan things with my friends. As much as social media can tear us apart, it can equally bring us together.

All of that being said, I could see myself limiting my uses. I mentioned social media being important for jobs and knowledge and keeping in touch with people. All of these things, I could still do and not spend hours on end scrolling through funny videos or photos. It is important to see where social media is helpful but I have also definitely learned that I may need a slight separation from it. I can lay in bed for hours on end scrolling. That is not helpful and is not the reason that I think social media is important, so this summer I may try to adjust that... we'll see how well it works out haha! I know I'll want to be on it a little to keep in touch with all my friends!

As far as the rest of the world goes, if I don't think I could eliminate social media from my own life, I know that neither could the rest of the world collectively. I guess if it was just gone and everyone was forced off of it, then there would be no need, but there is just no way everyone would agree on choosing that. I do believe that in the world, if you do not educate yourself and move on with the times, you are likely to get left behind. This does not go to say that people should not make decisions for themselves or choose things for themselves, but the future is digitized, the economy is digitized, and the odds of social media going away are low.

Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading!!!! I'm Nicoletta and I'm Just Happy to be Here 🤗 HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! ❤
